The Eaton Cutler-Hammer IT. 27mm
The Eaton Cutler-Hammer Intelligent Technologies (IT.)
family of Electromechanical products utilises new advances in
solid-state technology, offering increased functionality, system and
facility cost savings, improved safety, significantly reduced size and
the benefits of 24Vdc control.
Reduced Physical Size
Known as the world’s smallest IEC full voltage non-reversing and
reversing, single or three-phase starter, the IT. 27mm starter is at
least 36% smaller and weighs at least 46% less than equivalently rated
products. This offers significantly reduced control panel space and
equipment material, installation, and shipping costs. The A-Frame FVNR
Starter includes a Contactor measuring only 27mm wide with overall
Starter maximum dimensions of only H 102mm x W 31mm x D 79mm.
Lower Installed Costs
The compactness of the 27mm starter reduces the size of panel designs
compared to other full voltage starters resulting in a significant cost
savings for competitive world markets. Small size, less weight,
modularity and integrally wired solid-state control circuit components
keep overall costs down. Low coil and overload relay power consumption
reduces energy usage, and less heat generation eliminates or reduces
control panel cooling and ventilation requirements. Easy field assembly
of control wiring with plug and unplug field wiring connector also
increases uptime and lowers overall cost.
Enhanced Safety
Control with 24Vdc is reliable, cost-efficient, globally accepted and
offers safety advantages over traditional AC control. By incorporating
24Vdc control, we’ve reduced the risk inherent to working with higher
control voltages.

Increased Functionality
The IT. EM A-Frame also sets a new standard for electromechanical
capabilities with its exclusive Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control and
digital microprocessor electronics and algorithms.
Once energised, coil power is pulse width modulated at 20kHZ
carrier-frequency (beyond audible range) to maintain the sealed
condition even in high shock and vibration. PWM minimises the DC value
to the main contacts yet always applying the necessary contact pressure.
PWM is also used to control the DC coil draw. During closure, the coil
requires more current than when the contactor is closed generating a
minimised DC value to the contacts, which reduces energy to the
contactor providing the most compact starter available.
The A-Frame solid-state overload relay microprocessor digitally
sequences through each phase sensing current flowing to the motor
translating to I2T values for motor diagnostics, control and protection.
The proprietary microprocessor electronics and algorithms provide fast
and accurate motor heating emulation using high level differential
equation math processing; multiple PWM parameters for variability in
applied voltages; an internal hold-in (sealed) contact; trip/alarm
contact; and Trip Class and Phase Current Unbalance programmability.
